Benefit from university facilities

Overview

Keele is a pretty, semi-rural village around three miles west of Newcastle-under-Lyme. Properties tend to be traditional, attractive, brick-built and spacious; the perfect setting for families and those looking to retire in the quiet, beautiful scenery. Keele is a small village sitting alongside a big university; Keele University boasts the largest main campus in the UK, totalling 620 acres. Accommodation for students is predominantly within the campus which has many facilities that are open to village residents.

Schools and Colleges

There are three Ofsted-rated 'Good' primary schools in the area; St John's Church of England school in the village and St Luke's Church of England and Silverdale Primary just outside. Newcastle Academy, Madeley High School and St John Fisher Catholic College are nearby respected secondary schools, with Newcastle-under-Lyme College offering Further Education provision.

Transport Links

Keele is situated conveniently between junctions 15 and 16 of the M6 which takes you to Birmingham in the south and provides fast links to the major cities of the North West. Because of the university, the village has an excellent bus service into Newcastle and to the surrounding area and Newcastle-under-Lyme bus station has good local connections. Stoke-on-Trent railway station around six miles away, providing services to London and Nottingham in around 90 minutes, and Birmingham and Manchester in under an hour; the Stafford service takes around 20 minutes.

Amenities

While many of the village's amenities are within the university campus including the library, shops, bars and restaurants - all open to village residents - there is a general store in the centre of the village as well as a pub.

The village is surrounded by beautiful countryside and is popular with walkers and cyclists. Nearby is award-winning Silverdale Country Park - an 83-hectare open space created on former colliery land, and Apedale Community Country Park, both attracting walkers, cyclists, twitchers and anglers.

For those keen on sport, residents can take advantage of the fantastic university facilities; these include a gym, fitness classes, climbing wall and indoor and outdoor courts and pitches. For golf lovers, Keele Driving Range, Trentham Golf Club and Newcastle-under-Lyme Golf Club are nearby. Newcastle Town Football Club plays at the impressive Aspire Stadium and has strong links in the local community.

Keele village hall provides a hub for the community with space for clubs and gatherings. St John the Baptist Church is in the village and Keele Chapel is on the university campus.

Keele Practice offers GP provision to local residents as well as students and the respected Royal Stoke University Hospital is under four miles away.
