Overview

Maybank and Basford are popular residential areas situated on high ground, overlooking nearby Newcastle-under-Lyme and Etruria. The attractive, leafy, wide streets are lined with spacious 1950s semis and Victorian terraces. Bungalows and flats come onto the market occasionally. Basford is home to Europe’s first purpose-built theatre in the round, the New Victoria Theatre. This lively theatre attracts acts and productions from around the UK and the world, and is a key part of the region's cultural life.

Schools and Colleges

There are several Ofsted-rated 'Good' primary schools in the area, including St Wulstan's Catholic, St Margaret's Church of England and Merryfields schools. Hempstalls Primary and May Bank Infants' School are rated 'Outstanding'. Wolstanton High Academy and St John Fisher Catholic College are nearby respected secondary schools, with Newcastle-under-Lyme College offering Further Education provision.

Transport Links

Maybank and Basford are situated conveniently between junctions 15 and 16 of the M6 which takes you to Birmingham in the south and provides fast links to the major cities of the North West. There are good bus services into Newcastle and to the surrounding area and Newcastle-under-Lyme bus station has good local connections.

Stoke-on-Trent railway station is just over a mile away, providing services to London and Nottingham in around 90 minutes, and Birmingham and Manchester in under an hour; the Stafford service takes around 20 minutes.

Amenities

Although Newcastle and Stoke are nearby, Maybank and Basford have many good shops and amenities including a newsagent, convenience store, mini supermarkets, hairdresser, barber, cafes, restaurants and pubs. Nearby Wolstanton retail park is home to several big retail names as well as a large supermarket.

For those who enjoy the outdoors, there is Brampton Park and Gardens which offers much to families, including an adventure play park and a museum. Nearby is award-winning Silverdale Country Park - an 83-hectare open space created on former colliery land, and Apedale Community Country Park, both attracting walkers, cyclists, twitchers and anglers.

Nearby Water World is a great day out for families and swimming fanatics. Basford tennis courts are a long-established part of the community. For golf lovers, Wolstanton Golf club, Keele Driving Range, Trentham Golf Club and Newcastle-under-Lyme Golf Club are nearby. Newcastle Town Football Club plays at the impressive Aspire Stadium and has strong links in the local community.

Maybank and Basford are home to several churches; All Saints' Church, St Mark's, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Newcastle-under-Lyme Congregational Church, Saint George's Church and Newcastle Methodist Church.

Milehouse Medical Practice, Wolstanton Medical Centre and Ryecroft Surgery are among several practices offering GP provision, and the respected Royal Stoke University Hospital is under three miles away.
