Overview

Swynnerton and Meaford are small, exceptionally pretty villages set around three miles apart in countryside south of Stoke-on-Trent and near Stone, Staffordshire.

Meaford was home to a coal-fired power station whose towers once dominated the local skyline but were demolished in the 1980s. Swynnerton counts Lord Stafford among its residents; the family lives in the eighteenth-century, Grade 1-listed Swynnerton Hall; its gardens were designed by 'Capability' Brown.

Swynnerton properties tend to be large and fairly modern while Meaford's properties tend to be older style and include some flats. Both villages are highly desirable and prices reflect this when compared with Stoke and Newcastle.

Schools and Colleges

While neither villages has its own school, both have pre-schools. Springfields First School is a nearby Ofsted rated 'Outstanding' school and All Saints Church of England First, Tittensor Church of England and Manor Hill First schools are rated 'Good'. Christ Church and Alleyne's Academies in Stone are nearby secondary schools, with Alleyne's Academy offering Further Education provision.

Transport Links

Meaford is close to the A34 and both villages are around a ten-minute drive from junction 15 of the M6 which takes you to Birmingham in the south and provides links to the major cities of the North West.

The villages are five to ten minutes from Stone railway station and around 15 minutes from Stoke-on-Trent station. These provide services to London and Nottingham in around 90 minutes, and Birmingham and Manchester in under an hour; the Stafford service takes around 20 minutes. Blythe Bridge station is 20 minutes away and is on the Derby and Crewe line.

Amenities

While Swynnerton has a post office/general store and a garage, and both villages have good pubs, most nearby amenities are in Stone, some five miles away. Stone has an array of shops, including a supermarket, butcher and florist.

Swynnerton has its own cricket club, as does Stone. Stone Golf Club is nearby. Swynnerton and Meaford are surrounded by glorious countryside and are near the River Trent and the Mersey Canal, all of which provide beautiful and peaceful walking opportunities to families and dog owners.

Swynnerton village hall is a hub for the community with space for clubs and gatherings. Swynnerton is home to St Mary’s Church and Our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church.

Mansion House Surgery in Stone offers GP provision and the respected Royal Stoke University Hospital is around seven miles away.
